Hawaii Engagement Photography

Fun & Breathtaking Hawaii engagement photography on Oahu and across the islands.

Beautiful scenery, real moments, and comfortable direction.

Hawaii is an incredible place for engagement photos, but the best sessions are about more than the scenery.

I was born and raised here on Oahu, so a lot of what I look for comes from knowing the island. Things like how the light changes, when the ocean is calmer, what the wind usually does, which locations get crowded, and how quickly the weather can shift.

The ocean, mountains, light, and landscapes all help. But what really makes the photos work is feeling comfortable together and not feeling like you have to perform for the camera.

My approach is simple. I’ll guide you enough so you’re not wondering what to do, but I’m not going to turn the session into something stiff or awkward. You’ll walk, talk, laugh, take in the place you’re in, and I’ll photograph the real moments that happen in between.

For couples getting married in Hawaii, an engagement session is also one of the best ways to get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding day.

Breathtaking Images that actually feel like you

A lot of couples choose Hawaii because they want the landscape to be part of the story. That might mean ocean cliffs, open fields, soft beach light, green mountains, or an epic sunset.

I love that part of it. Big scenery has always been a huge part of what I’m drawn to photograph.

But I also don’t want the photos to feel like you were just placed in front of a pretty background. The goal is for the location to add to the moment, not take over the whole session.

The best engagement photos usually have both: a beautiful place, and something real happening between the two of you.

Engagement photos in Hawaii, even if you’re getting married somewhere else

Some of my favorite sessions are couples who are getting married somewhere else but wanted Hawaii for their engagement photos.

Maybe you’re visiting Oahu, planning a proposal, celebrating an anniversary, or just want photos that feel completely different from what you’d get at home. The light, landscapes, ocean, and pace of the island can make the session feel like more than just a quick photo shoot.

If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii and want to build a session around it, reach out and I’ll help you choose a location and time that actually makes sense for your plans.

Choosing the right engagement photo location in Hawaii

There isn’t one “best” location for engagement photos in Hawaii. It depends on the kind of feeling you want.

Choosing a good location is not just about finding the prettiest background. In Hawaii, timing matters. Light, tides, wind, crowds, parking, and weather can completely change how a place feels.

That’s where local experience helps. I’ll help you choose a location that fits the kind of photos you want, but also makes sense for the time of day and the conditions.

Ocean cliffs and dramatic coastline

Areas along Oahu’s South Shore and southeast coastline can give you waves crashing on the rocks, cliffs, gorgeous sunrise lighting, and that more cinematic Hawaii feel. Depending on conditions and access, places near Diamond Head, Sandy Beach, Makapuʻu, and other coastal areas can work beautifully.

These locations are usually best around golden hour when the light gets softer, or right around sunrise when the island is quieter.

Coastal locations with softer light

Some of the prettiest beach and coastal areas on Oahu also have strict rules around commercial photography, permits, and access, especially on parts of the Windward and East side. Because of that, I’m careful about where I recommend sessions.

If you want a beach or ocean feel, I’ll help you choose a location that makes sense for the look you want, the time of day, and what is actually allowed.

The goal is simple: beautiful ocean light, a relaxed experience, and no stress about whether we’re supposed to be there.

Green mountains and botanical gardens

For a lush, green look, Oahu has locations with mountain views, trees, open space, and a completely different feeling from the beach.

Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden, the Windward side, and other locations like Kualoa Regional Park can be especially good when you want something with a a little bit of everything.

North Shore and open landscapes

The North Shore has a different feel from town. It can be more open, golden, and laid back. Areas around Haleʻiwa, Waialua, Sunset Ranch, Dillingham Ranch, and Turtle Bay can give the session a slower, more spacious feel.

If your wedding is on the North Shore, doing your engagement session there can also help the whole story feel connected.
